HFFA August Fishing Tournament report 8/19/12

Postby shanai » Mon Aug 20, 2012 12:46 pm

14 anglers in 10 boats took part in the August monthly tournament. What a difference a day makes when compared to Stan's post of his day on Saturday.

The weather was overcast for most of the morning with slight trade winds and water temperatures starting about 79 degrees rising to over 82 degrees by the late afternoon. The afternoon was mostly sunny and hot but the occasional overcast skies and winds made it bearable. A perfect day for busts and TUCS! ( you would think )

There were the occasional busts here and there, mostly over there after we just vacated a spot. The few busts that we did get close too, we could not get many bites except for one bass.

Of the 14 anglers fishing, 12 were able to catch their limit of fish so you'd think that it was a great day for catching. Mostly everyone commented however, that it was a tough day of fishing as the bite were few and infrequent throughout the day. Many were able to catch a bunch of fish within the first hour that they started fishing but then the bite slooowed down and was very sporadic the rest of the day. At weigh-in, the bass outnumbered the Tucs 10-1 and again, the few Tucs that were caught were in the heavier range, 2-4 pounds.

On our boat, we did not get our first fish until about 9:30 when a bass bite on a jig while we were fishing near the county yard. A second bass was caught about 10:00 in the same area using a swim bait. Our third bass came on a worm fishing near BSI about 11:30. Our last three bass were caught between 1-2:30 while we were fishing near Morgan's point. One on a worm and the other two on lipless crankbaits. That was our day, six bites and six fish, at least our hookup to catch ratio was perfect.

I think this is what makes fishing Lake Wilson so interesting. Every day is different adventure and a unique experience.
