Low Water

The current low water condition is a challenge for shore fishermen. It's tricky getting down to the water over exposed banks that are often very steep or very slippery. With the California grass high and dry, the tucs are hiding deep in the sunken treetops. Not an easy task trying to pull them out of the branches, once you hook them.

This morning, I took my brother-in-law, visiting from Texas, out for a couple of hours of tuc action from the bank. We caught and released about 2 dozen small ones up to 2-1/2 lbs. We broke off several others in the submerged branches. We did manage to land and release two decent-sized tucs - a 4 lb. 8 oz. and a 4 lb. 10 oz. All fish landed and released were pulled out of the sunken branches on 6 lb. test (kids, don't try this at home).

Can't wait until the water level rises back up into the California grass - better tuc action from the bank.
