Very few fish left in the lake

August 14, 2017, 3 peacock bass caught 2 Red Devils No largemouth No blue gills The fishery had really gone down hill in the last 2 years. Water level is extremely low, haven't seen or caught a largemouth in a few months and the once overpopulated Red Devils are far and few between. The State really...

Sad condition of Lake Wilson

Been on the Lake 10 outings in the last 2 weeks, I must admit that the approvements to the Park and to the dock are quite nice. However, I am extremely disappointed with the fishing. From 2007 to 2015 the fishing on Lake Wilson was exceptional. I could bring guest to the lake and fish a combination ...

Re: Clearlake Northern California 29 Nov to 1 Dec 2016

I learned the shakey head technique a few years back at a BASS seminar taught by Mike Icconnalli. Kinda tough using it in Lake Wilson, there's too much debris on the bottom of the lake. I lost all my fancy shakey jigheads. If you find all my expensive tungsten jigheads when the lake is low, Enjoy!

Wahiawa Middle School Bass Program

Went out to the Lake today at 2:00 pm, looks like a construction crew was doing some work on the lower part of the boat ramp. Are these the improvements that were mentioned in Sept? Also, is the Wahiawa Middle School bass program still supporting the lake? I got remarried and only fish a few times a...

8lb Catfish

Caught this 8 lb catfish near Mikimiki flats. Yes, my scale is dead accurate. Here's the photo to prove it!

Good fishing!

Any idea if the valve on the dam is repaired? It would be nice if Dole and the DNLR would keep the water level steady.

When the bite slows down I'll drop shot using a #1 hook and Berkely Gulp. The rod I use is a Powell 6'6" X-fast action. I've had good success catching largemouth bass, but I've never caught any peacocks. I recommend using a 3/16 oz cylinder type drop shot weight in Lake Wilson. The round ones snag t...

I agree, the peacock bass look healthy. I've caught several peacocks that were previously caught & released. You can see the small holes where the hooks have penetrated. I even caught one with a crank bait still stuck in his upper lip. Catch & release doesn't seem to affect them physically, ...

There hasn't been any more information on the sewage spill into the lake that I know of??? Although, it's the third major sewage spill into the reservoir this year. I wonder why the EPA hasn't $$$ fined the State of Hawaii yet???

Hey Bud: I had the same problem when I first started fishing at Lake Wilson. No one would help me at all on locations, tackle, or techniques. Why, I don't know. It's not like anyone is fishing for prize money??? And compared to everywhere else I've fished in the U.S., there is no pressure on this la...

I purchase all of my terminal tackle on the west coast. I also use Bass Pros and Cabelas. Hawaii has a really poor selection of freshwater fishing tackle. I recently bought a low profile baitcasting reel in California because no one here stocks 'em. Spinner baits, crankbaits, plastics, bullet weight...

I've been using my 12' Portabote for over a year and it works well for Lake Wilson. I have a 5hp 2 stroke Mercury and a 30lb trolling motor mounted to the back. My sonar is mounted on my trolling motor. I took me about a year to figure the lake out and find out what lures work and don't work. I spen...
